Monica is from Romania. She's studying for a PhD in Psychology at the University of Chichester.

For a couple of days, the time stood still and nothing else mattered.

As a PhD student, I got a place to attend “Life Beyond the PhD” Conference at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park.

It was the second time I applied for a place as I really wanted to attend the conference.

The location and the programme of the Conference looked amazing. But it was my friend and fellow colleague, who had attended it last year and was so impressed with everything, that made me want to attend it even more.

So, no need to say how excited I was when I found out my application was successful second time around!

Not only that the place, the food and the daily programme were amazing but also the different professional and personal conversations I got to have with other PhD students from different Universities and Research Departments from all over the country.

“A unique experience and I highly recommend it to existing and future PhD students!”

It felt good to get to know other PhD students and other Research Projects.

It also felt safe to know that we all shared the same common worries (e.g., how the Viva is going to be, what kind of jobs are we going to do).

More importantly, it was great to learn a few tips and tricks in terms of successful job applications and interviews.

As a matter of fact, I used one strategy I learnt during the Conference in my job interview I had three days after attending the Conference and I managed to get the job!
