You can never underestimate the value of your teenager knowing how to naturally care for themselves. Teaching them to use a hammer and screwdriver could save them a lot of time and money if minor repairs are needed. They should know the value of dressing for the occasion and maintaining good grooming habits. It takes a lot of skill for someone to properly care for themselves.

In some respects, you'll never stop being a parent. Before your child heads off to college and becomes too stubborn to listen to mom and dad, you should invest your last couple years of influence getting them ready to be successful adults.
