Irina Dumitru - “Travelling”
Irina has travelled from Dracula’s country Romania to Chichester in the South of England to study English & Creative writing with Media & Cultural Studies.
Travelling makes me feel like I don’t belong. Being an international student, you get to have two places to call home, whether you want to admit it or not. And travelling between the two can sometimes make you feel confused about which one you prefer.
I went back home to Romania for the winter holidays and the night before my flight, I couldn’t sleep at all. Not because I was excited to travel home, but because I felt I needed a few more days in Chichester, so I can prepare myself for the journey. I felt guilty for wanting to stay in England a bit more, although I was going to be back in less than two weeks.
“I needed a few more days in Chichester ….”
When I finally got to Romania, it took me two days to get used to my old bedroom, to get used to seeing my old friends again, but after a few days, it felt like I had never left. Time went by so quickly and before I knew it, it was time to get back to England. The problem was that I wanted to spend more time at home and Chichester sounded like such a lonely and boring place at the time. I didn’t want to go back just yet.
