Emeka (Mark) Akonu Jnr - “What I do in my spare time”

Emeka (Mark) Akonu Jnr

Mark is a Nigerian student studying at Durham College, Canada, and he's really enjoying getting to grips with the quirks of Western culture!

A little while ago I wrote on my arrival to Durham College. Over the months I have adapted to the busy curriculum of the college. It has been hectic, but a great learning process for me, meeting different people and getting to manage my time.

But what do I do in my spare time?

What do I do in my spare time?

For me myself this is a very nice time. In this time I can do everything that makes me fresh again after all the class work a whole week.

As one of Durham College's international student mentors I get to listen and talk to fellow students during my free time and ensure their voice is heard, I can do some relaxing activities as well, such as:

  • Cooking nice homemade Nigerian food
  • Reading class notes and assignments
  • Playing Intramural soccer
  • Playing Scrabble
  • Pray to God
  • Take a sprint run every morning
  • Workout at the gym
  • Talk with my family by Skype
  • Engage in volunteering jobs
  • Hang out with friends
  • Go to church
  • ...and also write blogs such as this

“Ordinary people think merely of spending time, great people think of using it”

So if you ask me I don't want to lose my spare time, nothing is a waste of time if you use the practice prudently.

Ordinary people think merely of spending time, great people think of using it. I have cultivated this attitude for so many years, being in Durham College and studying Environmental Technology now, my priority is my books.

But any spare time I get or create, I tend to try discovering myself more and more.

"Spending time with God is the key to our strength and success in all areas of life". All that really belongs to us is time; and anyone who has nothing else, has that.

Well I have to go do another thing now, I encourage you reading this to find spare time for yourself or with your family to do something you love doing most.
