Nora Augustine - “Opening Weekend!”

Nora Augustine

Nora Augustine, Psychology student, blogs about her journey from Tanzania to New York's SUNY Plattsburgh.

Summer has ended too soon; it’s time to reset our minds to book-mode. The best thing about this is the fact that we will all be welcomed back to school with the best games, activities and staff.

Move-in day can be really stressful to both parents and students. Some have to drive for hours to get to Plattsburgh, international students have to fly and drive to Plattsburgh and by the time everyone gets here, they are tired and hungry. However, best is our school because it has everyone one of us.

“With a smile, parents and students are welcomed with inflated games, tie-dye t-shirt, food, bingo, caricature pictures, and good old 'kick-back relax and let’s chat”

With a smile, parents and students are welcomed with inflated games, tie-dye t-shirt, food, bingo, caricature pictures, and good old “kick-back relax and let’s chat”. But this event is not fun only, opening weekend, also provides campus information to both parents and students that includes map direction, upcoming events, the matriculation ceremony for freshmen. But most importantly, opening weekends assures parents that their children are in good hands and friends meet up for the times after a three month separation. For this we welcome everyone back. My fellow students, this is going to be a great year. Fall is almost here, stay dry and safe.
