Nora Augustine - “Many cultures, one unique experience”

Nora Augustine

Nora Augustine, Psychology student, blogs about her journey from Tanzania to New York's SUNY Plattsburgh.

I would like to travel the world, and see each and every culture on earth.

I want to see the beautiful people of Brazil and dance to the infectious samba; I want to go to the carnival festival in the Caribbean; eat Korean food in Korea, live with royalty in Thailand; and get a heart-pumping dance in the hot India.

This is everyone’s wish, but time is not of leisure. Even so, Global Education Office has us covered. For one night only, each fall semester, students and the Plattsburgh community can enjoy a vast and free cultural representation from the students. NIGHT OF NATIONS brings the beauty from all continents in one hall for all the people to see.

Students proud of their origins and patriotic to their cultures put on the most extravagant show that the community has ever seen. We have the Chinese Association’s famous sleeve dance, Sri-Lanka and their gorgeous fashion show, Desi dancers and Double Dhamaaka always keep you on your feet-all the way from India.

Then there are the “oppas” from Korean Association with a little pop and 'Gangnam style'. The Africans “watawaacha hoi na kitu mzuri kama ya Kongo” - something nice from Congo, and Capoeira will teach you sleek fighting moves. Whatever it is, it is designed in a way that every person in the audience gets a taste of different cultures.

For many cultures-one unique experience, you are sure to wish you lived here.
