Courtney Windju - “A Day in the Life”

 Courtney Windju

Courtney left the USA to study at the University of Otago in New Zealand. When she’s not studying she likes exploring, baking and meeting new people. Courtney graduated from the University of San Diego in 2016.

Lately friends and family back home have inquired about “a day in the life” of Courtney in New Zealand, thus I was inspired to do a blog post.

My day usually begins with sleeping-in a reasonable amount of time past my alarm, in my ever so creaky and not-so-comfortable bed. Once I finally drag myself out of bed, I walk downstairs in my winter clothes to make some breakfast and lunch for the day.

Then I make my way to campus (about a 10-15 minute walk) either to class or the University Volunteer Centre to do work. I will go to the library sometimes to do school work and/or people watch. The library here is HUGE compared to our library back home, which I find rather neat.

In the evening I go home and make myself dinner, relax and usually socialize with my flat neighbours. During the week I try to go to bed relatively early, because I am pretty exhausted by the end of the day. I either read or watch some TV and then lights out.

I keep occupied here in Dunedin, but my life here is quite different than my life back at USD. I am always on the go at my home university and have my days planned hourly, whereas here I have a bit more flexibility in my schedule, which I appreciate. For example, today I went on a spur of the moment adventure to St. Clair Beach in the evening with some friends. Although this aspect of Dunedin is quite similar to San Diego, I’d say it’s often easy to forget the beauty we are surrounded by.

All in all, I’d say I live a pretty good life!
