The TOEFL test is one of many available and can be one of the keys to a successful study-abroad experience. It is an accurate indicator of a student’s ability to communicate in an academic environment.

The test can be taken as either:
Internet-based test (iBT)
Duration: 4 hours
Score: 0-120 points
Read 3 or 4 passages from academic texts and answer questions
Listen to lectures, classroom discussions and conversations and answer questions
Break - everybody takes a 10 minute break
Express an opinion on a familiar topic. Speak based on reading and listening tasks
Write essay responses based on reading and listening tasks. Express an opinion in writing.
Your test will be conducted on a standard English QWERTY keyboard. When you are preparing for your test, you should practice on a QWERTY keyboard.
Paper-based test (PBT)
The paper-based test is only offered at centres that don’t have internet access. It is structured differently to the internet-based test and will give a different score. To compare your PBT test score to the equivalent iBT score, you need to see the ETS conversion table.

Score: 310-677 points with a separate score for Writing between 0-6

Listen to some lectures, classroom discussions and conversations and answer questions
Structure and Written Expression25 minutes
15 exercises of completing sentences correctly and 25 exercises of identifying errors
Reading Comprehension55 minutes
Answer questions relating to 2-3 paragraphs of text
Test of Written English30 minutes
Write a short essay of roughly 250-300 words
Your test score is valid for two years after the date that you took the test. For the people reviewing your university application form, it is a key indication of your English language ability.
